This victory marked China’s first-ever gold medal in para cross-country skiing at the Paralympic Games. Just days later, on March 12, 2022, he secured a silver medal in the grueling 18-kilometre long-distance race, completing the course in 50 minutes and 37.4 seconds. He added a third medal—another silver—on March 9, 2022, in the 1.5-kilometre sprint event, where he clocked 3 minutes and 44.8 seconds. These performances not only established Mao as a dominant force in para skiing but also elevated the global profile of China’s Paralympic program.
