Born in Brantley, Alabama, in 1971, Wesley Lavon Person grew up in a rural community where basketball became both an escape and a calling. His father, a high school coach, introduced him to the game early, and by the time he reached Brantley High School, Person was already drawing regional attention. He averaged 28 points per game as a senior, earning a scholarship to Troy State University (now Troy University) in 1989, where he quickly became a standout guard known for his sharpshooting and relentless work ethic.
